About the Event
CELEBRATING SUMMER SOLSTICE
The solstice is an astronomical event which happens twice a year, once in winter and then in summer. In the Southern Hemisphere the Sun tracks across the Australian sky to reach its highest position as seen from the North and South Pole. Â During Solstices the tilt of the axis of the Earth in respect to the Sun is at maximum, creating the longest day of the year.
The word solstice comes from Latin 'solstitium' meaning "the sun stands still". This is because the sun's path north or south stops before reversing direction.
For centuries, people have recognized the spiritual power in aligning with the annual phases of the Sun by honouring the Solstices. They built monuments, such as Stonehenge and the great Pyramids of Egypt and have celebrated the Sun’s healing energy since the Pagan holiday Litha. It’s a time for inner power and brightness. A moment of the year where there is more light, expansion and personal growth. We can be most present and conscious with ourselves at this time as there's an internal flame within when the days get longer. In Kundalini Yoga we like to gather around the Summer Solstice to set intentions of patience, nourishment, and trust. By celebrating the suns light and the power it provides to all nature, we are spiritually ignited, connecting to its life force. Seeds are planted in the Earth as well as the seeds of our souls.
In these times of great change prophesied by spiritual sages and indigenous medicine people and wisdom keepers it’s important we take time to stand still and honour the power and force of the sun. Summer Solstice is a turning point, a time to return to mystery and awe. A time to recover our powers of creation, to dance, chant and remember our wild ecstatic illuminating nature.
It's time to go beyond yourself to become more fully yourself. Everything is waiting for you.
