About the Event

CELEBRATING SUMMER SOLSTICE

The solstice is an astronomical event which happens twice a year, once in winter and then in summer. In the Southern Hemisphere the Sun tracks across the Australian sky to reach its highest position as seen from the North and South Pole.  During Solstices the tilt of the axis of the Earth in respect to the Sun is at maximum, creating the longest day of the year.

The word solstice comes from Latin 'solstitium' meaning "the sun stands still". This is because the sun's path north or south stops before reversing direction.

For centuries, people have recognized the spiritual power in aligning with the annual phases of the Sun by honouring the Solstices. They built monuments, such as Stonehenge and the great Pyramids of Egypt and have celebrated the Sun’s healing energy since the Pagan holiday Litha. It’s a time for inner power and brightness.
